Acne
Acne is a very common inflammatory skin disease that can have a significant psychological affect on the patient. Although it typically appears during adolescence, it can also appear at other stages in life. There are several types of acne: acne vulgaris, rosace, drug-induced acne, occupational acne, neonatal acne, etc. The appearance of acne vulgaris involves a complex interaction of multiple factors, both internal and external to the pilosebaceous apparatus. Individualised treatment must be provided for acne vulgaris. The type and severity of the acne must be taken into account, as well as any previous treatments undertaken and the patient’s preferences. Topical treatments (lotions, gels, creams and soaps) are normally used in mild cases. If the acne is severe, systemic treatments are used: hormonal treatment, antibiotics and oral isotretinoin. Other treatments exist, aimed at improving acne sequels (scarring, post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation) such as chemical peeling and microdermabrasion. At the Dr. Javier Bassas Dermatology Centre we offer you our vast experience in the treatment of acne and its aesthetic sequelae.
